How to Save a Species When There Are Only Two Females Left

Short & Crisp Award

The northern white rhino is on the brink of extinction – only two are still alive today. 🦏🧫 Neither female, Najin or Fatu, is able to have a calf, but could science offer a solution to help save the species? An international team of scientists are leading a project called “Biorescue” to attempt to save the northern white rhino through artificial insemination. We take a close look at the process, from extracting eggs to finding a surrogate, and ask how this could impact the world of conservation.
