Machine Learning How to Sea
Our video originated as part of the Summer of High Performance Computing (HPC) 2021, an internship programme that deals with supercomputers and specialized software for these technologies. It was organized by the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE).
This video explains an artificial intelligence method we developed that uses image recognition techniques to automatically detect underwater features such as canyons and seamounts from depth measurements of the sea. Our method can be used in a range of applications such as detecting potential landslides and protecting marine habitats. Through this video, we aim to raise awareness on not only marine ecosystems, but also the important role supercomputers play in our daily lives.
